Laboratories Appointment

Approval scheme, T&Cs, Independent Assessment, and applying to become a CCS approved lab

Laboratory Approval Scheme

REAL has established a framework for laboratories approved to undertake testing on the Compost Certification Scheme (and Biofertiliser Certification Scheme) – the Laboratory Approval Scheme.

The Laboratory Approval Scheme (LAS) document sets out the respective responsibilities of REAL, the Certification Bodies (CBs) appointed under the Schemes, and the Approved Laboratories. The LAS document is available to download here.

Terms and Conditions for Approved Laboratories

Renewable Energy Assurance Limited (REAL) has a set of terms and conditions (T&Cs) for laboratories appointed to undertake testing under the Compost Certification Scheme. The T&Cs for Laboratories are reviewed on an annual basis.

These T&Cs include requirements around:

  • performance and compliance criteria
  • provisions for samples transport, storage, and preparation
  • participation in inter-laboratory trials, spot checks and proficiency testing schemes
  • reporting of test results

A laboratory’s appointment will be dependent on compliance with all the T&Cs. If REAL should have evidence that the laboratory has not complied, their appointment may be terminated.

When appointed by REAL, the laboratory agrees to comply with all requirements specified in this agreement at all times.

Independent assessment

REAL have appointed an auditor to independently audit the labs for conformity with the T&Cs. You can read summary reports from several of the independent assessments below:
