Renewable Energy Assurance Ltd (REAL) owns and operates the Compost Certification Scheme (CCS); the independently assesses and certifies anaerobic digestate to PAS 100, the CCS Scheme Rules, and the relevant national end-of-waste framework: the Compost Resource Framework (CRF) for England, the Compost Quality Protocol (CQP) for Wales and Northern Ireland, or the SEPA Position Statement for Scotland.
In meeting the scheme requirements, compost reaches End of Waste status, meaning it is considered a product and is no longer subject to waste controls.
