Any compost producer who supplies compost for use in England as a ‘product’ must demonstrate compliance with the Compost Resource Framework (CRF). The CRF sets out the end-of-waste criteria for the production, storage, and use of quality outputs from composting of source-segregated biodegradable waste.

Compost Quality Protocol
Any compost producer who supplies compost for use in Northern Ireland as a ‘product’ must demonstrate compliance with the Compost Quality Protocol (CQP). The CQP sets out the end of waste criteria for the production and use of quality outputs from composting of source-segregated biodegradable waste.

NRW's Guidance Note022
Natural Resources Wales (NRW) Guidance Any compost producer who supplies compost for use in Wales as a ‘product’ must demonstrate compliance with GN022 (End of Waste: Compost produced from source-segregated biodegradable waste). This guidance note clarifies the criteria for biowaste to cease being waste under Article 6 of the Waste Framework Directive, including a specific plastic limit of 0.06% m/m. SEPA's Position
Compost in Scotland is regulated according to the Scottish Environment Protection Agency’s position statement. Compost derived from processes that meet PAS 100 requirements may, in certain circumstances, be considered fully recovered by the regulator.
