We are looking for a dedicated and motivated Policy Manager who will assist us with tracking and analysing policy developments in a range of areas relevant to the certification work we carry out. The successful candidate will also contribute towards setting and achieving the strategic goals within the team. The position offers an excellent opportunity to gain valuable experience in policy development and the circular economy sector.

Essential requirements for the role

  • Undergraduate degree or equivalent
  • Two years of policy analysis in a related field
  • Excellent written communication skills
  • Excellent IT skills including use of Microsoft Office suite
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Excellent team working skills
  • Ability to use initiate and work independently

Desirable attributes for the role

  • Knowledge of the circular economy sector
  • Experience of policy analysis
  • Understanding of the science underpinning the circular economy

Full training and resources will be provided.

Purpose of the post:

The purpose of the post is to assist the Director of Organic Materials Certification with policy analysis and development.

Reporting arrangements for the post:

The post-holder will report to the Director of Organic Materials Certification.

The post-holder’s duties will include:

  1. Identifying a number of policy areas relevant for REAL.
  2. Defining a strategy for following, analysing and developing these policy areas. 
    a. Agreeing with the Director of Organic Materials Certification key dates and deliverables.
    b. Arranging regular internal meetings to identify and agree REAL’s position.
    c. Arranging regular stakeholder meetings, including environmental regulators, Defra and industry representatives.
  3. Conveying REAL’s position both reactively (for example by responding to consultations) and proactively.
  4. Reporting on policy developments to relevant stakeholder fora, attending relevant events and meetings.
  5. Carrying out other tasks as may reasonably be required.
