The Compost/Biofertiliser Certification Schemes' Annual Report 2018

Renewable Energy Assurance Ltd (REAL) has published its third annual report for the Compost Certification Scheme, providing an overview of the scheme in 2018.

In summary, there were a total of 171 processes certified under the CCS by the end of 2018. Approximately 2,183,000 tonnes of green waste only were being processed by sites in England, 136,000 tonnes in Scotland, 122,000 tonnes in Wales, and 73,000 tonnes in Northern Ireland. Approximately 874,000 tonnes of green waste and ABPs material was being processed annually by sites in England, 134,000 tonnes in Scotland, 13,000 tonnes in Wales, and 156,000 in Northern Ireland. At the end of 2018, roughly 1,349,000 million tonnes of quality compost were being produced annually in the UK.

The report also presents data analysis from our Biofertiliser Certification Scheme in 2018 and provides updates on the Green Gas Certification Scheme and Compostable Packaging Certification Scheme, also owned and administered by REAL. Scheme Developments from both the CCS and BCS over 2018 are included in the report.
