Compost quality and safety for agriculture

WRAP published their report which summarises the findings of three risk assessment projects that spanned over 8 years. The projects investigated the safety of PAS100 composts when used in agriculture and field horticulture. The hazards considered ranged from those of microbiological, chemical and physical nature. The risks from compost were found to be low or negligible in all scenarios!

Physical contaminants in PAS composts and digestates

WRAP published their report focusing on the sampling and testing regimes employed by certified composters, and the CCS-Appointed Laboratories, respectively. The main aims of the project were to:

  1. Determine whether current sampling methods are sufficient
  2. Understand inter-laboratory variability with physical contaminant analysis
  3. Understand intra-laboratory variability with physical contaminant analysis
  4. Explore whether the German method for physical contaminant analysis could be adopted
